Local Authority approvals have recently been granted for Phase 2 of this
large housing development close to the centre of Kirkwall. Phase 2 will
see a further 32 units provided for rental and shared ownership. Work
is now well advanced on the 32 units of Phase 1 with Orkney Builders
(Contractors) Ltd. expected to achieve completion in June 2007.
Careful consideration of energy use and sustainability during the design process of both phases has resulted in a development that makes significant use of natural materials. High standards of insulation and the layout and orientation will assist in achieving good passive solar heating and the recycling of rainwater through toilets will reduce demand on potable water.
