Groatie Hoose, Kirkwall

Pentarq provided Project Management Services for this unique project.
The ambitious relocation of Robert Garden’s Summerhouse (the Groatie
Hoose or the Pirate Gow Folly) from its original position to the garden
of Tankerness House in Kirkwall was undertaken in 2005. This lottery funded
project was completed by local building firm Casey Construction Ltd who
demonstrated great ingenuity, wonderful care and great skill in bring this
project to a successful conclusion. The Groatie Hoose project has deservedly
received two awards to date:
- The Dynamic Place Awards in 2005 : Commended in their Built Environment Catagory.
- A Mention in the 2007 Civic Trust Awards - "a well managed relocation and restoration of a small conical stone summerhouse. Extremely popular amongst local residents, this project has resulted in a historical landmark now making a positive impact on the town."
