‘Best Project Management Firm of the Year’ – QS Building Awards 2007.
Finalist - Pentarq
This unique project to extend and refurbish the Pier Arts Centre, which sits on the waterfront of Stromness, was completed in 2007.
Pentarq provided Quantity Surveying and Project Management services as part of the design team lead by Reiach & Hall, Architects. The £4.5M project saw a long involved process of design, funding applications, tender and construction.
The New Gallery echoes the shapes and massing of the Stromness Harbour front; the original buildings have been repaired to the exacting standards to be expected within an outstanding Conservation Area. Local contractors, Casey Construction Ltd, faced the challenges of working within an extremely restricted area with great care and expertise.

For a complex ‘arts’ project on a difficult site in a busy town the challenges were significant but the ‘new’ Pier Arts Centre was handed-over pretty well on time and within budget. The quality of Design, Construction and Workmanship has been favourably commented upon in the media. The Pier Arts Centre can now look forward to retaining the accolade of “the world’s best small art gallery”.
