North Ronaldsay Lighthouse Project
Client: North
Ronaldsay Trust
The North Ronaldsay Trust started the the Lighthouses Project several
years ago with the acquisition of the redundant Lightkeeper Houses from
the Northern Lighthouse Board. The first phase was the conversion of the
former Engine Room into a Workshop for the (North Ronaldsay) Yarn Company.
Succeeding phases address Interpretation and Marketing and (holiday let)
Residential Accommodation. The Conservation and Repair of the Old
Beacon at Dennis Head is the final phase in the sequence. The Old
Beacon is the last survivor, in virtually original condition, of the first
four lighthouses built by the NLB towards the end of the 18th century.
Pentarq has provided professional services to the North Ronaldsay Trust
across all phases of the Lighthouses Project. We have provided Architectural
services which had a particular emphasis on the historic buildings – their
conservation and repair, and Quantity Surveying/Project Management services
which have focused on project costs, project programme and negotiations
with Funders.
Local contractors, Orkney Builders(Contractors) Ltd are currently working on the third phase of the works – the refurbishment and conservation of the Lightkeeper’s houses and the development of the North Ronaldsay Lighthouse trail.
